Saved By Saving Another

As I was walking through a snowstorm with a Tibetan, we came upon a man who had fallen over a cliff and was lying unconscious in the snow. I said, “We’ve got to go over to him and help him.”

My companion answered, “No one can expect that the two of us put our Ilives in danger to help that man.”

“Well, at any rate,” I said, “if we are going to die, it is better to be helping someone else while we are doing it.”

But my companion just walked away. I climbed down the side of the mountain found the unconscious, victim, put him on my shoulders, and painstakingly carried him down the mountain. The exertion made me warm and some of my body heat also got to the victim’s body, now stiff from the cold.

As I trudged along I came upon the body of my companion now lying in the snow. He had become tired and, sleepy, laid himself in the snow. Fell asleep and froze to death

Then I realized that by trying to save another person’s life I had saved my own.

( A true story from Tibet)

You can not bring sunshine into the lives of others, without letting some into your own. It is the rule of nature , that by helping others, we also get helped directly or indirectly.
